New appointments to Australian Defence Portfolio

Laing O’Rourke has announced two new appointments to ensure we are best placed to support Defence and contribute to the infrastructure required for Australia’s National Defence Strategy.

Appointment of Glen Billington, General Manager – Defence

Glen Billington has been appointed General Manager – Defence after a distinguished career with the Australian Army before transitioning to the Army Reserve.

During this time, Glen completed a range of appointments relating to the planning and delivery of Defence facilities, including a secondment to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Glen’s experience in the policy, planning and delivery of capital works projects spans the UK, Middle East, Pacific Region, and Australia. He will ensure Laing O’Rourke continues to align capacity and capability with the requirements of the Defence sector.

Appointment of Rod Aves, Programme Director – AUKUS

Rod Aves has joined Laing O’Rourke from Babcock International Group in the UK in the role of Programme Director – AUKUS.

Rod has an extensive global nuclear new build background, having worked on nuclear project delivery across many technologies and continents. He has also held nuclear licensee appointments in both Civil and Defence sectors.

Most recently, he led infrastructure delivery at Devonport Royal Dockyard to enable full lifecycle Maintenance of the UK Astute class submarines.
