Laing O’Rourke set to deliver Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford
25.03.25Celebrating a major milestone for the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford, Laing O’Rourke and EIT have signed the main contract for delivery of this new world class research and development facility in Oxford.
The state-of-the-art facility will bring together scientists, technologists, policy makers, economists and entrepreneurs to bring scientific discovery to real-world solutions.
It will provide an education and research space, an oncology and wellness patient clinic, an art experience based around science and wellness gardens designed around patient and research interaction to foster wellbeing.
The award of main contract builds on the early works which Laing O’Rourke began in 2022 under a pre-construction services agreement and is the company’s third live project in the city, including Oxford North phase 1a, a new innovation district including laboratory buildings, and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities.
It is an important project within one of Laing O’Rourke’s six priority sectors in the UK - healthcare, nuclear and green energy, rail, defence, science and research, and data centres - and part of the company’s global record order book of £10.8bn.
Laing O’Rourke’s Clients & Markets Director, John O’Connor, said: “We have focussed our efforts on securing work in our six priority sectors to de-risk our portfolio and achieve long-term sustainable growth. We are delighted to partner with the Ellison Institute of Technology to deliver this critical science and research facility.”
Laing O’Rourke’s Delivery Director, Martin Staehr, said: “I am proud of our teams across the whole business who have pulled together and worked tirelessly to achieve another major milestone on this unique project.
“The Ellison Institute of Technology, Oxford aligns perfectly with our business purpose to push the boundaries of what’s possible, in service of humanity.”
