Laing O’Rourke has appointed Mark Beetson as the new Head of Indigenous Affairs for Australia, responsible for developing and delivering the Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Indigenous Affairs strategy.

Prior to joining Laing O’Rourke, Mark spent 20 years in the construction industry, starting out as a construction worker before moving into Site Supervisor and Indigenous Engagement roles.

Over the past decade, he has been working to create opportunities for Indigenous peoples, businesses, and communities within the sector.

Mark serves as an external Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Advisor, and Member and Former Director of the Arthur Beetson Foundation, continuing the legacy of his father, Arthur Beetson OAM, who was the first Indigenous Australian to captain Australia in any sport.

Mark brings a wealth of experience in creating engagement pathways, strategic planning, and implementation of Indigenous participation programmes.

“I’m a proud Kabi Kabi man, with ties back to Wiradjuri, Wailwun and Djemba countries. I’m passionate about educating people on Indigenous history and culture and I’m genuinely excited to join Laing O’Rourke to help guide the team on the next stage of the Reconciliation journey,” said Mark.
