East Perth Station Upgrade

The PRISM Alliance, featuring Laing O’Rourke, has secured another significant package of work on the Stadium Station Project.

Western Australia’s Transport Minister Dean Nalder recently confirmed the Alliance has been awarded an additional contract to deliver the $25 million East Perth Station Upgrade.

Work started in mid-August to upgrade East Perth Station, as part of both the Perth Stadium Transport Infrastructure project and the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) program of Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) improvements.

The upgrade will include:

• Replacing the existing pedestrian bridge with a new wider and DDA compliant, fully-roofed bridge north of its current location
• Extending the existing concourse roof to cover the platform and create more shelter
• Increasing access to the concourse via stairs and lifts
• DDA upgrades including resurfacing of the platform, new tactile marking and the installation of four lifts (one at the East Parade side of the station, two that connect to the platform and one at the West Parade side)
• Increasing the length of the platforms to accommodate four and six-car train sets
• Installation of a rail crossover which will provide operational resilience to the Transperth network by providing the ability for new train movements on the Midland Line during disruptions
• Reconfiguring the Public Transport Centre’s West Parade car park to enable the installation of the new lifts and stairs, bike facilities as well as providing a forecourt area for bus replacement services and Perth Stadium events

Laing O’Rourke’s Western Region Director Stuart Crofts said the additional work was a great achievement for the Alliance and recognition of our capability and our team’s strength in designing, engineering and constructing in a complex rail environment.

“We have worked closely with our client, PTA, to provide them with the right solution, ensuring the station is able to meet the expected increased level of patronage,” Mr Crofts said.

The upgrade of East Perth Station is expected to be complete in late-2017, in time for the 2018 AFL season.
