Easy Access Station Upgrades For Sydney Commuters

The NSW Government has appointed Laing O’Rourke to deliver $80 million in Easy Access station upgrades across the Sydney Trains network.

Laing O’Rourke has signed a contract with Transport for New South Wales that will see Australia’s largest, privately owned engineering enterprise deliver major accessibility upgrades at four busy stations across the Greater Sydney region, including:

• Penrith
• 
  Flemington
• 
  Wentworth Falls, and
• 
  Heathcote

The improvements include new lifts, concourse bridges, walkways, staircases, canopies, platform modifications and improved lighting and train notification systems.

The work will also ensure that all four stations provide easy access for people with a disability and are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Laing O’Rourke Southern Region Director Mark Dimmock said the company had a proven record in the delivery of major infrastructure projects with Transport for NSW.

“We are currently engaged on a number of projects across the Sydney Trains network, all of which are delivering an improved experience for commuters,” Mr Dimmock said.

“We have the skills, experience and expertise from working closely with the Government, understanding TfNSW's requirements, to deliver the project within the desired timeframe and with the best possible result for commuters.”

Laing O’Rourke’s work for Transport for NSW includes network-wide upgrades through the billion dollar Novo Rail Alliance, the Auburn Stabling Project, the Sydney Light Rail early works programme, the Wickham transport interchange and the $100million upgrade of Wynyard, one of Sydney's busiest CBD stations.
